MBLAQ’s G.O. won the New Actor award from The Musical Awards.
The award ceremony, originally scheduled to take place on June 2, was canceled to show respect for the sunken ferry victims. Instead, the list of winners was posted on its website.
The Musical Awards celebrating its 8th anniversary this year, first launched in 2007 as the Korean adaptation of the Tony awards. G.O. is the second idol to ever receive the award, following JYJ’s Kim Junsu. G.O.’s winning of the award signifies the spotlight shed on him as the rising idol star turned musical actor.
Musical Seopyeonje starring G.O. is a project depicting the resentment and misery of Koreans based on pansori and has proven its popularity and quality by being performed for the third time.
G.O. was the first idol to ever be cast in the musical and has succeeded in satisfying the expectation of the audience and the public by learning pansori and drumming.
G.O. said, “I felt pressured to be cast as the lead in a masterpiece musical in Korea. I thank the production team of Seopyeonje and all the staff members for trusting me and giving me an opportunity. I’m honored to receive the award as a musical actor. I will work harder as I received the New Actor award, which is a once-in-a-life time award.”
